1976 Playlist on YouTube
Posted August 4, 2011 by thines01Categories: WTF
1976 was a big year for me.
It was the first time we were going to live OFF of a military reservation since my dad joined the Army.
It was the first time we had to live on our own land.
It was the first time I had ever seen a dead person.
It was the first time I had ever seen a dead person that I knew and liked.
etc. etc. etc.
I made up a playlist on YouTube from a list on another site.
Playing these takes me back in a big way.

OK, so I signed up with this site for working on freelance software projects. My expectation is to potentially find small projects I can work on in my free time (?) that I can use to keep my coding skill sharp (on things that are not just for my day-job). My major concern is what to do when the description of the bid does not match what the customer actually wants.
What do you think?

I here this message from so many motivational speakers, but it sounds best coming from Brian Tracy 🙂
Pick one thing in your path today and make it better
Posted February 26, 2010 by thines01Categories: Motivational
Pick one thing in your path today and make it better.
You’d be surprised what a difference this concept can make in your day.
First, you’ll know you’re making positive changes.
When you make a change, not only are YOU changed, but the universe is also changed because of you.
Imagine, over time, how this will completely change your environment for the better.
It doesn’t need to be anything especially complicated or time-consuming; it can be something simple that only takes seconds. Don’t be limited, however, by any amount of perceived effort, just choose it and make it better.
Let it be something you naturally run across (“in your path”).
It could be something as simple as:
- Picking up those socks from the bathroom floor.
- Replacing that burned-out light bulb.
- Sorting and/or delivering that stack of papers sitting on the printer
- Wiping down that dirty counter in the break room at work.
- Turning off the lights in the conference rooms.
- Shoveling the snow from the sidewalk at church.
- Fixing those shingles on the roof (calling the repair company).
In time, even the big things will have become better.

TV Used to go OFF!
Posted August 15, 2008 by thines01Categories: WTF
Here’s a fading memory in the American mind:
Television was not always a 24-hour thing.
TV used to go off!
I have had numerous conversations with people about TV and I would say something like, “I really miss the days when TV used to go off”. About 50% of the time, now, people don’t seem to remember the station signoff or the “High Flight” poem or the National Anthem or the Test Pattern or the Snow.
So I went to my favorite web site (You Tube) and rounded up this video that has everything except the test pattern, but that was easy to find, too.
Enjoy!

Here is a PROBLEM that needs some exposure.
So You Don’t Run Out Of Things To Worry About
Posted June 18, 2008 by thines01Categories: Politics, WTF
The title “So You Don’t Run Out Of Things To Worry About” is lifted from the great Paul Harvey. He uses it to announce the latest scare about a product, service, country or ideal.
Well, now the spirit and intention of that phrase seems to saturate every facet of American life to include all of media, our own back yards and even the grocery store shelves.
We just ended the great Tomato scare of 2008 where some 280 people became sick with salmonella after eating regular red, round tomatoes. Whew, that’s over for the most part! Maybe Bubba forgot to wash out the pig truck before borrowing it from Roscoe to deliver his t’mAters.
Now on to (or back to) the regular new list of scares:
…and toping that list is PLASTIC!
Have you noticed those recycle numbers on the bottom of your bowl (plate, cup, water bottle, lotion, keyboard, mouthwash, orange juice)? Well, those Resin Identification Codes (RICs) now tell us what can be recycled together. Others have read those codes as potential health risks. Click on the chart below to see the issue:
So NOW what?
One of the concerns is the health risk associated to these when they are exposed to excessive moisture!
Does that include hot coffee in my new Starbucks Coffee Mug (RIC=7) !!!
Surely Styrene Acrilo Nitrile can’t be a health risk, CAN IT???
It’s NEW, so it’s SAFE, right?
How about (other supposed bad things) … or are they good?:
back on Gasoline increases the price
CAN I PLEASE KEEP MY NEW CUP?!?!
WILL STOPPING CARBON EMISSIONS CAUSE THE NEXT ICE AGE?!?!
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THAT BIRD FLU AND THAT FLESH-EATING BACTERIA???
Have a nice day 🙂
